Welcome to the College of Creative arts Africa Department of Music. Here you will find vibrant community of staff members who are active musicians and scholars. Their obligation to mentoring students in the multifaceted art of music-making (including performance, theory, aural, history and technology), ensures that students can mature into musicians capable of performing, composing and producing research at the highest levels. Our discipline boasts a state of the art electro-acoustic studios and a well-stocked library.
The African continent is well known for its unapologetic, energetic, moving and soulful musical traditions that have transcended continents.There has never been a better time to celebrate and nurture African talent and music than now and College of Creative Arts Africa department of Music together with its affiliate university, Midlands State University based in Gweru, reflects on the rich narrative and story of African music and its power in defining the continent’s identity, its struggle to find its voice and the Pan- African revolution.

HIGHER DIPLOMA IN MUSIC EDUCATION

The Higher Diploma in Music Education Course is a two-and-a-half-year full-time course designed to

  • train students as instrumental or vocal teachers of the highest calibre and
  • enable students to perform confidently in a wide variety of teaching and playing situations.

The primary emphasis is on practical study, both solo and ensemble, supported by classes in musicianship and related studies.

This Higher Diploma contains an academic component that supports any aspiring teacher’s knowledge. In addition to the classes in history, harmony and counterpoint and aural awareness, we provide an education issues class, which explores good teaching practice and investigates various philosophies of education.

HIGHER DIPLOMA IN MUSIC PRODUCTION & SOUND ENGINEERING

Higher Diploma in Music Production programme focuses on teaching Music Producers who know how best to infuse sound and mix while mastering the same. Alongside the history and theory, the course puts a strong emphasis on learning technical skills, so students spend time both in dedicated lectures and independently working in recordings of their own created works and applying the theories learnt.

Higher Diploma in Music Compositional Techniques and Performance is practical, hands-on program which provides students with music editing laboratory and live venue-based training, through state-of-the-art facilities and industry-connected instructors who are already in the music industry. Students build on the core skills and knowledge from the first year to the second year and implement knowledge earned on small and large venue projects
